How to Engage

The Virtual Conference format is new for everyone this year, but here are some ways that you can make the most out of your experience.

JOIN VIRTUALLY

  • The conference will use Zoom as the platform for all conference sessions, meetings and socials.
  • To connect, make sure you have Zoom downloaded on your computer or mobile device.  You will also need to create an account.
  • The Zoom Support Quick Start Guide for New Users is helpful if you are new to Zoom.
  • Ensure that your connection and operating system meets the Zoom requirements – find them here.
  • After downloading and setting up your account, customize your Zoom profile by adding a photo (it will appear when your camera is off). Be sure that your Zoom name also represents how you’d like to be identified in the session.
  • Important note: participants will always have the option to join by phone if your internet connection is unreliable – numbers will be sent along with links.  You will also be able to watch session recordings.

ATTEND A CONFERENCE SESSION

  • Find the conference schedule online and watch your email for meeting links at least 24h in advance of the sessions.
  • You will be able to ask questions in different ways depending on the format of the session.  You will always be able to ask through the chat or Q&A function, but in some sessions you can choose to ask your question through your video and/or microphone.  The session facilitator will go over these details at the start of each session.

BE SOCIAL

  • There are many opportunities to be social with other conference participants – we encourage you to join one!
  • Social Hours – Grab your favourite beverage and join a social hour held every evening from 5:30PM – 6:30PM for casual conversation and connection.
  • Join other conference participants on Thursday evening at virtual concert or evening social.
  • Links to socials will be sent to all conference participants.

VISIT A TRADE SHOW EXHIBITOR

  • The Virtual Trade Show will take place on Thursday December 3.  Find all the details here, including a list of exhibitors.  This is a great opportunity to connect with these organizations and businesses – ask questions, find out more information and meet ‘face-to-face’.
  • Links to Exhibitor times will be sent to all conference participants.

PARTICIPATE IN CHAT STORM

  • At the end of each session, you will have the option of answering two questions in the chat box:
  1. What are the most important/relevant session take-aways?
  2. What are you still curious about or newly curious about?
  • This information will be compiled and shared (anonymously) as part of Saturday’s closing session.

JOIN A COMMUNITY MEETING

SHARE A SNAPSHOT OR SELFIE

  • While we can’t all be together in person, it would be fun to see how the EFAO Community is participating in the conference.  Take a photo of you and your farm participating in the conference and post to Facebook or Instagram with hashtag #EFAO2020.
  • All posts will be shared by EFAO social media and participants will be entered in a draw for EFAO merchandise.

ASK OR ANSWER A QUESTION IN THE ONLINE COMMUNITY FORUM

  • Continue the conversation in the Online Community Forum.  This is an online space for connection and knowledge-sharing in an informal, easy-to-access format.

STOP BY THE INFO BOOTH + CONVERSATION SPACE

  • Have a question for EFAO Staff or want to meet a conference participant for a follow-up conversation?  Jump into the virtual Info Booth + Conversation Space anytime from 9:00AM to 5:00PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
  • A link to the Info Booth + Conversation Space will be sent to all conference participants.

SUBMIT AN INNOVATION

  • The Carrot Cache Innovation Prize is back for the 7th year at the EFAO Conference.
  • A $1,000 prize will be awarded for innovative, low-cost solutions to planting, harvesting, and managing food grown on an Ontario urban or rural organic farm.
  • Full details and submission form here.
